COMPLICATED CONFUSING RULINGS ON IMMIGRATION CONTINUE
[MAY 31, 2025 (10:30 AM PDT)]
Again, a crazy newscycle, critical thinkers,
CNBC:
SUPREMES REVOKES PROTECTED STATUS FOR 500,000 IMIGRANTS PENDING APPEAL
In an 8/2 decision, the court is being criticized as "upending" the lives of these half-million people by using a stay which should be used to minimize the damage of those involved, according to dessenting justice, Ketanji Brown Jackson.
She said that the Supreme Court’s ruling, which did not explain the grounds for the decision, “undervalues the devastating consequences of allowing the Government to precipitously upend the lives and livelihoods of nearly half a million noncitizens while their legal claims are pending.”
“While it is apparent that the Government seeks a stay to enable it to inflict maximum predecision damage, court-ordered stays exist to minimize — not maximize — harm to litigating parties,” Jackson wrote.
CT&Reasoning has tried to not micromanage our reporting on many of these rulings due to the complexity of stays, appeals pending to a higher court, referrals back to a lower court, etc.
For instance, here is a link to an important ruling--just yesterday; however, I think reporting on the unsettled law and the increasingly use of federal district court judges to block Trump's executive powers [while interesting to some extent by policy wonks such as myself,] these are largely still up in the air and there is plethora of other news we try to cover for our readers.
The ruling comes nearly two weeks after the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to revoke the status of nearly 350,000 Venezuelan immigrants in the U.S. who are allowed to remain under the Temporary Status Program.
Another example, the ruling yesterday on tariffs which is under appeal.
It led the CBS News last night and now I cannot even find it!

Apparently, the decision is headed to the the supreme court.
I will leave you with this trending TACO phenomenon as I think it echoes the growing public's sentiment about all of the constant back-and-forth on tariffs, evolving court rulings, and the pall of economic uncertainties for business' moving forward.
